OKINAWA!!!! And more random stuff

~ So

ya first of all what I have to say is that I’m sorry for not updating lately haha. I’ve been super busy with a lot of stuff and well ya, it’s hard to get to the net haha. So I’ll try to make this one good?
~~ So ya I’m pretty much half way through my exchange already! It’s going by so quickly! I’ve met so many new friends and tried so many new things! I feel so much older in a way! Well right now its autumn and autumn in Japan isn’t the best of season :’C It’s rather gloomy, rainy and windy. Also autumn really doesn’t start until November hahaha. Most of the trees don’t change color, or rather they may turn a dull brownish, or at least on flat land haha. In the mountains the trees are pretty amazing! Like on Mt. Hakusan, amazing! There are those trees that are amazing, like momiji! They turn such an amazing red and orange! So ya I do kind of miss good old Canadian autumns. I was able to go to Mt. Hakusan with Adela (the other exchange student in my class) and my mom. It was amazing!! It got cold up there hahaha, like a Canadian autumn cold. I also had snowed on the peaks of the mountains the previous night so I got some awesome pictures!! Otherwise It`s pretty tough biking to school in the morning haha I’m always so tired and its pretty cold in the mornings. Plus Japanese houses don’t really have furnaces for heating. They have air conditioners or Kotatsu. A Kotatsu is like a low style Japanese table and then over top of it is a large blanket, and then a table top, like a sandwich. So anyways underneath the table is a heater, and when it heats up its soooooo nice, I’ve fallen asleep a couple times sitting under it actually hahaha! But ya nights can be pretty cold, but the comforters here are amazing! So it’s not that that bad.
~~~ Hmmm what else? Well ya I’ve really settled into my life here, it’s pretty normal now. I’m actually getting bored! You see the Japanese doing things quite repetitively, like really! It does get kind of annoying hahaha doing the exact same badminton practice day in day out, I don’t think that it’s that good; I think that you should have change, to sharpen all of your skills and stuff. But anyways ya I’ll talk about that stuff when I get back, no need for me to get unhappy or anything. Well yaaaa I’ve taken both the bus and the train by myself now, it’s not too bad once you know some Japanese and have done it a few times. I’ve gone to Kanazawa by myself, so ya I feel a lot older hahaha. So the three other AFS students in Komatsu went to Kyoto for a week to live with other families there and to go to school, and the people from Kyoto came here, it was like a switch. It was only for the year students though so I didn’t go; I would have loved to though! I met up with one of the students; he was staying at a friend’s place. His name is Nick. Nice guy from the US, and its sooooo weird his birthday is the same day as mine! And he likes Ruroken! Hahaha weird weird eh?! Yup lots of days are just the same as others, soo it does get boring sometimes, I hope something comes along to spice things up a little.
WOW!!
Okinawa was amazing! Nothing like Japan actually. It seemed liked what Hawaii would be like! Lots of jungle stuff, pineapples, mangos, bananas, and all that stuff haha. I am really glad that I went. At first I was kind of like whatever I don’t really know if I want to do this. But it was great, and I became better friends with everyone!! I wish that I had brought more money though, darn hahaha I only brought about 60 bucks and would have loved to have more haha. Maho!
~ So I guess I’ll run through the days and such
Day 1
So I woke up at 6 to get to the airport, of course my mom took me though hahaha. Cold and gloomy haha, I was kind of feeling not so good about the trip then, maybe it was just that I was tired haha. So I got to the airport and joined my class. With in the second grade there are 6 classes, so all the second graders were there. Had to start wearing a mask then blah! I influenza hit Komatsu pretty hard and before then I had been resisting to wear a mask hahaha I hate them. But ya anyways got our tickets and such got on the plane and took our seats. When the plane took off it was exactly like the scene from Azumanga Daioh hahaha, everyone was like amazing power!! And screaming hahaha. We had the plane pretty much to our selves which was good. I slept while I was on the plane hahaha very tired. We got there and it was warm, but gloomy and very windy. Ya there were tons of other school at the airport too haha, all schools usually do their trips in November. Wow we had to wear our uniforms, and when I saw all the other schools I realized how strict our school is haha. The other schools were allowed to wear whatever they wanted and have make-up on and such. Some of them had wear uniforms though hahaha buuuut the girls wore their skirts sooooo short, like an anime or manga hahaha. But anyways, we got on our tour bus, which we would be taking for the whole 4 days; there was also a tour guide. So we went to the hotel too drop off our stuff, nice hotel! After that we got back on the bus and went to lunch at this awesome Okinawan style restaurant, great food! Then we all got on the bus, my class, and went to Shuijyo castle! Amazing but it was windy and rainy hahaha! In most of the castles and museums I could not take pictures which sucked. Went back to the hotel and chilled for the rest of the night with my classmates! Man I should have defiantly brought my DS, everyone had theirs!! There was even a wii with super smash bros there! The games were really really against the rules hahahahaha.
Day 2
Woke up at 6:30 T^T sooooo early hahaha. Then we went to these caves that were hospitals in World War 2 for Okinawan soldiers and civilians that were injured by Americans. Okinawa has a pretty gloomy history in WW2 that most people don’t know about. It’s pretty bad, plus since America won they have decided to keep their largest air base on Okinawa, I think that’s not right that they think they can do that, sorry to all the Americans that read this but I don’t think its right. Anyways after that we went to lunch at a cool little restaurant, food wasn’t that good though haha. After that we all went to the Okinawan memorial peace park, where all the graves of the people who were killed in the war, pretty sad. It was a beautiful and hot day though. Then went to the museum that was also in the park. The thing I didn’t like about the trip was that everything we went to see we only got around and hour or half an hour at each thing since we did so much stuff, so it was pretty much just walking through the whole museum and not really looking at that much stuff. Then we got back on the bus and went to downtown Okinawa. It’s so funny, on the bus everyone would sleep. Wow sooooo much stuff downtown haha not as great as downtown Kanazawa or Osaka, but still lots of stuff, tons and tons of souvenir shops hahaha! We got into groups of 3 or 4 and went around, also we had to buy our own supper that night, and I had Okinawan soba! Yummy! Then went back to the hotel and chilled the whole night with friends.
Day 3
So woke up at 6 today hahaha early early! Then after breaky, got on the bus and went to the southwest Okinawan Botanical gardens. HUGE!!! Haha wow it was amazing, everything from mango trees to the most exotic flowers you’ve seen haha, we spent about 2 and a half hours there, which was nice, you would have loved it there mom!! We also ate lunch there at a nice little restaurant. After that back on the bus to sleep hahaha. We went to the Ryukyu (Okinawa’s old name) ruins of old castles. Amazing views from the top of mountains! Awesome ruins hahaha. Then for our last stop we went to Monzimo. Monzimo is like huge cliffs overlooking the sea and Okinawa, If Keegan is reading this then he will know the place (where they want to through Chiyo into the sea hahaha, it looked exactly like that). Then we went to a new hotel since we were about 2 hours away from our old hotel. This time I got three other roommates and we totally got like the best room ever! It was huge and had an amazing view. At first three of the girls had to stay in our room as well because there was a shortage of rooms haha, ya hahaha one of the girls I really liked too hahaha Kurumimomo, she’s intense at badminton she could beat me pretty easily hahaha. But ya anyways they left after about an hour because they got their room. Also the girls and boy rooms were all beside each other this time hahaha don’t worry nothing happened hahaha.
Day 4
So in the morning I and my roommates woke up at 4:50 because we wanted to go out and see the sea hahaha, but well all the doors going outside were locked hahaha. So we went back to sleep until 7. Everyone had breaky and got on the bus and went to our last stop in Okinawa. We went to the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium! It was incredible!!! The best sight was the three HUGE whale sharks as well as huge manta rays and sharks and octopus and huge crabs hahaha ya. After that we ate lunch on the bus and went to the airport. Did the whole plane thing and got back home safely.
~~`` So ya that was my trip to Okinawa! It was amazing and I defiantly want to go back! Until next time
Normal life.
Life in Komatsu
Soooo wow it’s been a little over two months already! It doesn’t seem that long at all! So much has happened haha. It’s not just the big things, more the little things that add up to make things amazing! Every day I have been writing journals so when I return I can tell everyone all the little details!
So what’s new hahaha, well I am in that part of my stay where I’m fitting in, feeling normal here and just settling in. Not some many people at school are surprised to see me anymore, although I’m still really popular haha. I have made a few really good fiends now too, Miho (really like her), Hikaru (awesome artist), Kyohei, Yuka, and my best friend who’s name is slipping my mind right now hahahaha, figures eh? They are all in the art club, which I attended on Mondays and Fridays. As some of you may now, my big ol 18 B-day was on the 24th. Everyone in the art club had an awesome party for me! It was awesome! Maho! I got gifts and everything hahaha. I live really close to my best friend; he’s about 5 mins away by bike. He’s just like me, a total anime otaku hahaha. I have Okami he has Toho, and so on hahaha.
~~ Ya the big 18 in Japan, I’m an adult now. I’ve said my goodbyes to childhood, and it was really tough for me. That is one of the main reasons I came to Japan. I didn’t want to leave being a kid, really being a kid is awesome! I figured coming to Japan would make me more mature or either let me have a little more time being a kid. It has done both already! I feel like I can do anything now! Like it’s amazing, I usually saw myself as being quite shy back home, but this trip has opened me up. I’m prepared for anything, university seems like nothing now, and it’s a great feeling! I do miss being a kid but most of those years were awesome, but I’m ready for being an adult and finding out all the mysteries about being one. I know that I usually don’t talk about my feelings about this kinda stuff to anyone, like anyone! It is difficult for me, but now it seems easier, but then again this is the net and it’s easier to talk on the net rather than in person. But for all of you are reading this, especially my mom and dad, consider this a bit of how this experience is changing me already. But anyways enough of that sappy stuff haha.
~~ I really want to thank everyone who thought about me and wished me happy birthday in some way on my B-day. I want to send a special thanks to Amber who sent me a totally sweet Okami shirt, which I have no idea how she found hahaha. So thank you very much! Double Maho!! It was a great birthday! Also to my parents who I got to talk with on my birthday, Scott too haha X’D. As well to my Liam, Uncle Chris, and Aunt Jill who sent me and awesome and thoughtful card!
~ I did a bit more traveling too, to Kanazawa. Kanazawa is the biggest city close to Komatsu. I thought it was like a mini mini Osaka haha! Although I liked it more, lots less people and still awesome anime stores hahaha. There were tons of people walking around the streets in cosplay too! I can go back pretty much anytime I want, since it’s only like 30 mins away by train! So I will be going back maybe next weekend with Fernando, an AFS friend.
~~`` well ya not much else is new haha just living life here in Japan, and I fit right in. Sorry that this journal wasn’t that long, but there wasn’t that much to write about this time hahaha. So I guess I’ll talk to everyone later, and hope you enjoy the pics. The sun in Japan is amazing, as well as the clouds hahaha, I love it! Maho!
OSAKA REPORT!~
Maho!~~ wow!
`~ “A” so much has happened since I last updated! So I will try to touch up on the biggest things and most important things that have happened since. Maho!~~ X’D
~ So let’s see first school. : well its going great I am very used to it now, still am unusually popular among the girls hahaha. Today we all changed or clothes to winter uniforms, all the girls were like “kawaiiiii!!” when they saw me, then say hi and the go off giggling with their friends. I have joined the art club now, well at least on Fridays when there is no badminton. I have made some good friends there, like everyone is a big anime fan there!! Just like me, although I think I am still a bigger otaku hahaha maho! They all freaked out when they saw my art and my cosplay! Wow hahaha!~ It is still really hard to get by in class because of the language barrier but it’s better than before. Every Friday I have Japanese lessons for 2 hours, very tired and hungry after hahaha!~~ but they are going okidoki!
~~ Hmmm badminton. Well it is going alright, I love badminton that is why I continue doing it. I am not playing with the players that I should be, at least I think so. Because, I am guessing, they are training for their games, although I can beat most of them. Oh ya last Sunday I sprained my ankle, it hurt a lot. I had to go to the hospital and get all bandaged up, but it is feeling better now. I thought I had broken it haha it was such a loud crack! But ya I okidoki! Maho!~ although no badminton for a week, so lots of art club!
~~~ Home life. Ya its going great at home! My host parents are so nice to me, I feel lucky that it got such good ones! Adela’s ( the other AFS student in my class) had her birthday party the other day, so it was really fun!! Yummy cake!! Maho!!~~ Ok so the biggest thing that happened was that I got to go with my host mother to Osaka for 4 days!!!! It was the most fun I’ve had in Japan so far!! So ya Osaka is pretty far from here, it took about 5 or 6 hours to get there, lots of traffic!!! Amazing views from the road, I got tons of pics and videos hahaha!! So we stayed at my host moms, mom’s house, or rather apartment. It was the smallest living space I have ever been in!! Like very, very tiny. When we got there it was around 7pmish and then after 2 melon breads me and mama were off to a huge festival! My host mother used to live in Osaka so she knew her way around very, very well!! Lucky me!! We took the bus there, because there would be no where to park a car. The Danijiri Matsuri is one of the biggest festivals in Japan!! 3 days long. So we got there and wow!!! So many people!! So many shops!! So many stands selling stuff!! We met up with some friends of my host moms and we were off! Wow amazing it’s hard to say how big this thing was. Each town in Osaka, there are like 35 I think, and all the towns have their own separate float type thing. It is called a danjiri, it is like a huge float that is all hand carved, dragons, tigers, all different things, and it has lanterns hanging from it. There are people in it and on it playing drums and flutes, also it is pulled by people from the town all around the festival, there are 35 haha a big festival! I got lots of pictures haha. I love Takoyaki (fried octopus balls) and they are from Osaka, and they were amazing at the festival!! X’D So we got home around 10 ish haha and I hit the hay! On day 2 I woke up around 10ish and ate some yummy breaky made by my host grandmother! Her name is Yuki, Yuki-Chan haha it is a very beautiful name eh? Then after that we all head out to Zeon, I think that’s what it was called, it is the biggest mall in Japan! I was very tired all day so I wasn’t really that into it. It was pretty much like the Eaton’s center. Although on the way there we went across a huge bridge, there are tons of bridges in Osaka, and past by Kansai airport! It’s on the water, so cool!! And lots of other cool things haha.!~ Then day 3 T^T the most fun ever!!!!!! We woke up at 8ish had a quick breaky then headed out, me and mama. We went to Kushi-wada station to pick up mama’s high school friends and her 2 daughters. Then we all headed to Osaka castle!!! T^T man Osaka is a huge place, some of the industrial parks and stuff are like amazing, I know they are not good, but it’s so incredible! Huge bridges in the sky everywhere haha it was like the future haha maho!!~~ Wow Osaka castle, it is the third biggest in Japan, and has the largest garden! It was so amazing Just look through the pictures hahaha it’s too hard to explain maho!~~~ so after Osaka castle, we all headed to downtown Osaka! Had some yummy Okonomiyaki T^T so amazing!!! Also Osakan food. They looked around. OMG!!!! Like T^T amazing ok you know those pics of downtown Tokyo or Times Square in New York?? It was like that but times like soooooooo many more people!!! So amazing, huge plazas and billboards and signs and stores!!!!!!!!! Everything! So many people it was amazing, I really wanted to stay there longer haha! The place is called NihonBashi in Osaka if you want to look it up. I can’t believe I forgot my camera in the car for that!!! T^T. So I kept bugging everyone to find the anime stores hahaha. Then we found it. It was like a mini Akihabara. Like a whole long huge street filled with anime stores, game stores, figurine stores, computer stores, maid cafes, doujin stores T^T!!!!!!!!!!!! I curse myself that I didn’t have more than 4000 yen with me!!! I spent all of it in the first store I went to haha, I almost fainted when I went in. BETTER THAN ANIME NORTH!!! X’D the first floor was all games, the second all manga, the third all anime, the fourth computer games/anime, the fifth all hentai hahaha not allowed in there just yet, the sixth all computers, and the seventh all figurines hahaha TT^TT sooo amazing, my heaven!! So I spent way to long in that one store thinking it was the only one. Then went down the whole store looking inn like every store hahaha mama and the others were getting tired, it was like 6ish. So we finally left, I did not want to leave ever hahahaha. We went to eat some ramen and then headed home! The best day of my life hahahah!!!!!! Maho maho maho!~~~ so tired when we got home so I hit the hay, had to wake up early tomorrow. SO ya woke up and 6am hahaha T^T so tired packed up everything and the said goodbye to Yuki-Chan and then we were on our way. I slept most of the way home, nice car, TV in the car haha, watched anime! So ya that was my Osaka trip hahaha amazingness X’D T^T I want to go back!!!!! But my mama said we could go back in December or to Akihabara, I had to choose Akihabara definitely!! I might get to go to Comiket too, if I can make really good friends or at least one!
So yaaaaaa what else hahaha I duno, Osaka was my huge highlight! Maho!~~~~~~ I have lots of manga and figures now hahaha. Oh ya I have a gundam too ^A^ it wasn’t as expensive as I thought, it even came with an SX1100 beam laser rifle with 200x10m scope and dual beam sabres! Hahaha yaaaa not kidding! Maho!~~

OH ya as some of you may know, this trip is costing me a whole load of cash hahahaha. Mmmmmm and I have to make a total of 4,000$ in donations toward my trip and to AFS, the program I am with. So if you could find it in your big beautiful heart or wallet hahahaha just kidding just kidding. It would really really help me though X’D heres the AFS website if you’re interested: and if you have any questions about it my e-mail is : okami_kenshin@hotmail.com or you could e-mail my father at: wylieda@hotmail.com
Oh ya I also will have some more videos up at: http://www.youtube.com/user/KomatsuJames8 if you want to catch a bit more of what it’s like being a Ryuugakusei (exchange student) in Japan!!!

Thanks to everyone who reads this and cares about me, love you all eh!! X’D haha maho~~

Komatsu life

Wow, I can’t even begin to explain my experience so far. It’s been about a month now, I think haha time really flies eh?> it doesn’t seem like it has been the long at all! (>3<) right now I am just settling into everything, mostly school. I’ve gotten pretty used to all the stuff that happens around the house now and am starting to really relax, like it were my real home. ‘’ lets seeee what to start off telling everyone about, lets talk about home life!
~~ Sooo my house, it isn’t all that big but it’s nice, it’s not traditional but not modern haha it’s in between. It’s great though I like it a lot. It’s kind of hard to talk about the houses and stuff around me since in Japan they don’t have street names, so it is very hard to find your way around!! ( ; 3 ; ) but everyone is very very nice and helps me around. I get around every by bike pretty much, school, stores, anything I need. Its great exercise hahah and its fun to look around! Maho!~ very nice views, you can see the mountains far away and lots of other cool stuff. It is hard to explain hahah maho!~ a lot of it is more of the feelings you get from being here rather than everything to do and see.
~~ schoooooool Meihou senior koko!! Man am I ever popular there!! Everyone says hi all the time and asks where I live. Like all the girls are like Kawaiiiiiiii! When they see me, it’s awesome! Maho! So many girls in skirts X’D mahomaho!!~~~~ hard to stay concentrated in class haha with all the pretty faces around. Although I am in the middle grade, since the third graders are preparing for university entrance exams. But like wow everyone is like how do I say it haha everyone is like a child. They all giggle and are hugging and doing stuff that doesn’t seem their age haha so kawaiiiiii! And if any one likes yaoi they guys here are very close to that kinda stuff haha and always hugging and like groping each other hahahahaha so interesting maho! Cute! Hahaha a few of the guys in my class are even gay! The first day I had to make an introduction in front of the whole school!!!!!! But I don’t feel as nervous as I usually would, I think it is because I have done so much stuff that seems way more nerve wracking, so I just go with the flow! By bike from home it takes 40 minutes to school long time eh/ I’ll take you through a day of school.
Wake up at 6:45, brush teeth wash face n stuff. Go down stairs, mama is already awake, say good morning eat breakfast and get out the door. Bike to school get there for 8ish. Say hi to a whole bunch of people and go to my home room, 2-2. At 8;10 there is 10 minutes of self study. 8:20 morning announcements . 8: 30 class starts. 4 classes in the morning, then lunch at 12:35. Lunch is over at 1:15 then 2 or 3 more classes after. School ends at 3:30. Most students stay at school to talk with friends, club or team activities. Right after classes, I have badminton practice until 6:30 or 7ish. Go home eat yummy yummy super, have a nice relaxing bath and go to bed. Then do the whole thing over again> ughhh the Japanese high school student leads a very hard life. They have lots and lots and lots of studying to do for one exam at the end of grade twelve! Not really that much home work, but memorizing and studying. Very different than Canadian high school. Badminton is so fun! Some of the students there are so amazing!!!!! But I there are some things that I am not so happy about badminton, but I won’t talk about it haha.
ANIME AND MANGA!!!!! So much TT3TT mahooooo!!!!! Like amazing, manga even at convenience stores!! I’ve bought so much hahahaha manga is about 5 bucks per book!!!! Maho maho, anime is about the same price if not more, but I just rent all the anime I watch from the rental store GEO, it’s amazing. Oh ya a shout out to keegan and Jake, Pokémon heart gold and soul silver came out yesterday! I am very angry that I didn’t bring my DS, it is only like 43 bucks!!!! It is taking me a lot of strength not to get it hahaha, you should have seen the rush for it the other day.
